Gangs of New York: Bronx teen shot 16 times over gang turf war – TomoNews

NEW YORK — A teenager has become the latest victim of Bronx turf wars between the 280 gang and rival gang 6 Wild.

Christopher Duran, 14, and his younger brother were headed to school on the morning of May 22, but just as the pair exited their Sheridan Avenue apartment building, a man with a .45-caliber pistol walked up and pumped more than a dozen bullets into Christopher, who was hit in the stomach and head.

Christopher at about 8:30 a.m. while reportedly crying out for his mother. Within days, cops had determined the shooting was likely related to a dispute between Christopher’s older brother and a rival Bronx-based gang. The 6 Wild gang claims the area around East 165th Street and College Avenue, while Christopher’s brother’s gang, the 280, claims the East 167th Street and Teller Avenue area.

The gun allegedly used by the shooter was traced to several gang-related shootings, but police are still gathering evidence against the main suspect, 25-year-old Travis Bloch.

Cops say Christopher Duran had been arrested at least five times in his short life. Christopher’s uncle, however, denied the teen was connected to gangs and called the slain boy a “good kid.”
