NYC reserves $4.6M for building seven additional mental health centers for pre-K kids

The New York City is planning to spend $4.6 million for mental health services for the children and their families. In early October, Early Childhood Mental Health Network will start seven new clinics across all the five boroughs.

How the project will help the children

A lot of services will be offered at the clinics. There will be short-term counseling and onsite mental health consultations. This network is part of the TriveNYC project and is aimed towards improving the mental health across the city. There will be hardships in life. But by acting early to help the young people and understand their emotions, it is possible to reduce the severity of mental health. It is easier to solve such problem with the child is still a kid. Once they grow up, it becomes difficult to handle.

Plans for the project to work well

This program will provide training to about 400 pre-kindergarten and day care sites. They will be supplied with classroom materials of these kids as well. If needed, the staffs at the pre-kindergarten and day care sites will be able to refer a child to one of the new Mental Health Network clinics that will soon be constructed. Initially, 3,000 kids and their families will participate in the project. Later, the city’s 100,000 people will be involved in this project.

There will be two clinics in the Bronx and two in Brooklyn. The rest will be in three other boroughs. Once the teachers and other staffs of pre-kindergarten and day care centers become better equipped, they will be able to help students to have a strong foundation. This will lead them to success in life.

Donald Trump had no idea about education on during his last visit to Bronx school

Recently, the crowd at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland was impressed by Donald Trump’s views on poor children and their education. But his speech was contradictory to what he had given 19 years back when he visited a low-income school in the Bronx. He was given the opportunity to become ‘Principal for a Day’ and his speech indicated that he had no knowledge about education. The audiences were disappointed as Trump didn’t show any empathy towards the poor children, which he did in his last week’s speech in Cleveland.

Trump’s visit to P.S. 70

19 years ago Donal Trump was ‘Principal for a Day’ at P.S. 70 and was greeted by the 5th graders. A lottery was held to pick 300 students for a trip in the auditorium to the Nike store. Most people thought he was just doing easy publicity by buying some pairs of sneakers for these kids. One of the boys asked him why he didn’t give college scholarships instead of giving away 300 pairs of Nike shoes.

During Trump’s visit to the school, a former Assistant Principal of the school saw Trump slipping a tissue under his hand so that he could avoid touching the school’s stair railings. Everyone present there noticed this incident, but no one said anything. Trump had breakfast at The Plaza with Lisa Belzberg, who runs PENCIL, the organization that arranged Trump’s visit to the school. During the breakfast all Trump did was boast about himself; he was continuously telling how great he was.

Trump’s speech at P.S. 70 that shocked the crowd

The school Trump visited was for financially needy students. But by listening to his speech, it seemed that he was oblivious to the condition of the students. He said that the even though the students lived well and in a good environment, they should put themselves in other less privileged people’s position. The principal of the school and the rest of the crowd were shocked by his remark.
Hopefully, now Trump has learned something about education. His last week’s speech at least indicates something positive.

Construction of Bronx playground

The people of Bronx are all excited about the construction of a new playground in the locality. Nonprofit organizations KaBOOM! And DreamYard has built the playground in a day with the help of volunteers from Delta Air Lines.

Facilities available

These NGOs organized a design day for the kids a few months ago. Hundreds of kids from the Bronx participated in the event and drew their dream playground. They had slides, swings, pools, roller coasters and other playground facilities in their pictures. The organizers used these drawings to build the playground. They used common elements for construction. They placed each item carefully. They had a spiral slide next to the swings, and colorful bricks were lining the ground.

How it has impacted the life of kids in Bronx

It was incredible how creative kids could be. Their designs were just wonderful, and the playground turned out to be fantastic. Many parents and kids dreamt of a playground like this in their neighborhood where the kids could play and have fun. The playground has now become a meeting place for the parents and the children as well. They are making new friends and getting a good physical exercise instead of playing with their digital gadgets.

The NGOs which worked on this project took this attempt to provide a healthy life for the children of this community. They are planning to build more playgrounds of this kind in future. The fact that they had involved the kids in the design of the playground was appreciated by all in the community. By using simple materials and taking the help of volunteers, they have shown us how easy it is to implement an idea. They hope that other organizations will come forward and invest in such project in future to make this community better for children.
