Why I Will Always Hire a Local

My family decided that it was time for a new change in pace and thought that our best bet was moving to the Bronx. What really struck us the most with this decision was getting a Bronx mover.

It was a choice between hiring someone from the Bronx and someone from our area.

Find Out The Pros and Cons of Hiring Local Movers.

Moving can both be an exciting and stressful experience. Your new environment is practically brimming with so much potential – new friends, possibly new significant others, or a better job. However, there is also the bittersweet emotion of leaving behind a place filled with memories of many years. Melodrama aside, one of the most difficult things about moving is packing and transporting all your belongings, not to mention the cost of relocating. Which brings up the question: should you or should you not hire a professional moving company for your needs? The following is a discussion of the pros and cons of self-moving and hiring local or interstate movers.

Let’s first tackle self-moving

Pros

– For sure, it is cheaper than availing local moving services, because you don’t have to pay for the labor fees and all the other expenses. Unfortunately, this requires a lot of time and effort on the part of the client.

– Everything – organizing your valuables, packing them carefully, loading them into a rented truck in a way that conserves storage space without compromising stability while in transport, driving all the way to the destination, and unloading all goods – is done by you (or if you’re lucky, with a few friends).

Cons

– If you’ll be moving somewhere far away, the great distance during transport can cause damage or breakage to your possessions.

– If you’re moving out of a fairly large house, this may entail several trips back and forth, which is a very time-consuming process.

What about hiring reliable local movers? What are the Pros and Cons of hiring local movers?

Pros

In addition, professional local movers have been trained and certified – and thus, are very knowledgeable in handling fragile objects and ensuring their safety throughout transport.

  • The vehicles themselves are also specially designed to hold goods to minimize the risk of breakage.
  • Moving companies will take care of everything; all you need to do is conduct an inventory.
  • If still worried about the cost of hiring local movers, it would be helpful to look them up on the Internet to find the top quality and safe local movers. There are companies that provide top caliber services without leaving a big hole in your pocket.
  • Some are willing to provide moving insurance – meaning if any of your belongings get damaged while in transport, they can replace or pay the amount equivalent to it.

There are a few companies that do so much more than moving belongings – they can even make arrangements for your real estate matters or find schools for your children.

Cons

Here’s the gist. It’s a lot more costly than doing it on your own, but this choice offers many advantages. Perhaps the most important is the amount of stress that you relieved yourself of.

Given these pros and cons, the decision whether to hire local movers or not really depends on the client. If they value peace of mind over monetary cost, then availing of moving services seems to be the best choice. On the other hand, if clients feel that they are well capable of doing these, then by all means, take these matters into your own hands.

At the end of the day, we decided to go with a local. Phew.

Bronx teen scores a full ride to Columbia University

NEW YORK—Gil De Jesus lived most of his life in the Soundview section of the Bronx.

“I was born in the Dominican Republic. My family and I we moved here when I was six years old with the intentions of my brother and I getting a better education. My father always believed the key to a better life is through education,” De Jesus said.

His mother was a beautician and his father worked several jobs to bring in money.

Hard work was instilled in Gil early on.

And that’s exactly what he did during his time at Mott Hall Bronx High School.

“Seeing how much they sacrificed and how much they dedicated to my brother and I. I didn’t want them to see us moving here or them sacrificing so much as a burden. It has really been the motivation thus far in why I do all the things that I do,” De Jesus explained.

That hard work paid off.

Through his grades and the counselors at the College Bound Initiative, Gil was not only accepted into Columbia University.

He has a full ride.

He credits much of his success to the help he received from CBI.

His parents didn’t know much about the college process, so Gil relied heavily on the counselors’ help.

“I found that a lot of the counselors who were part of the process were people who came from similar backgrounds to mine. You know, low income or from immigrant families Anyone can help someone apply for college, but not everyone can put in perspective the importance of higher education. And that’s what CBI really does,” De Jesus said.

He’s a month or so into his freshman year, learning the ropes of college life and majoring in Latin American studies and political science.

He hopes to become a defense attorney and one day represent people from his community.

“I’m very passionate about my roots. I’ve done all I can to learn as much as I can about being a Latin X person without the resources. Now I have a whole data base to teach me about my people, my culture and I’m definitely going to take advantage of that,” De Jesus added.

But for now, Gil’s living the dream and making his parents proud.

“The fact that they know how much I’ve worked for this and I’m here now. My parents, they’re as proud of me as they could ever be,” De Jesus said.
